Student lead learning

Rm 19 is different to other classes in our school, because of the way we learn. On a Monday we get a sheet with tasks for the week. We must complete all the MUST DO tasks by Friday. The task sheet is spilt up into 3 parts Writing, reading, other & could do (we get to choose what we put in the could do.) Along the side is MUST DO, COULD DO & MY CHOICE! There is up to 3-4 tasks in each section. Before morning bell will go students cone into class grab their books and start their work by the time the 8:50 bell rings all students will be head down & on with their work.
Each student self guides their own learning, besides when our group is on the mat with Mr George.
A few days ago we had a problem, not knowing if every one had finished their tasks. Rm 19 is built up on trust & Mr George thought we should be able to trust each other & shouldn’t have to have a teacher marking all our work and looking over our shoulders all the time just to make sure we have completed all our tasks on time. We needed a solution. The students got together and made some ideas. The class voted.............
Our new chart work like this. For the week we have a partner, each time we complete a task we goto our partner. They check our work & if they think it’s done, they sign in our book. Then your partner ticks it off on the class sheet & signs it to say they have seen it. The other part of trust for room 19 is that if Mr George sees it ticked off then he can ask to see it.
Rm 19 is a student guided learning, gym for the brain.
